Saphiret is a form of art glass dating back to the mid 1800s. Originating in Czechoslovakia, it consists of a hybrid of sapphire-colored glass and liquid gold. When combined, the two materials produce an unusual multi-colored appearance. Although the glass appears to be brownish-red in color, it emits a blue flash when caught in the light.
A beautiful pair of heart earrings from the Victorian (1880s) era! These unique earrings are crafted in gilt metal and feature stunning saphiret glass. The translucent glass displays a smoothly polished surface and exhibits a light blueish green hue with reddish brown undertones and an iridescent flash. The quality of the color play is difficult to capture in a photograph, but is quite striking in person. Each earring begins with a circular surmount, featuring a central, circular cut of saphiret glass. Hanging from the surmount is another link, which features a prong set heart-shaped piece of saphiret glass. The earrings feature simple earring wires. These stunning dangle earrings hang with lovely motion, catching the light with every turn, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection and a perfect gift for someone special!
Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 1" long and are approximately 1/4" at the widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilt metal, and the saphiret glass links are intact and secure.
